Neuropsychological Assessment
A neuropsychological assessment can be a very valuable tool. It assists in understanding an individual's cognitive and emotional functioning, and can aid in the differential diagnosis of neurodevelopmental delay, learning disability, ADHD, and other psychiatric disorders and disorders of language, learning and memory. During the course of the assessment, an individual may be asked to complete tests of general ability (intelligence), academic skills, visuospatial abilities, perceptual skills, language functions, learning and memory, attention and concentration, complex problem solving, and emotional functioning.
A neuropsychological evaluation is usually conducted in one comprehensive day of testing or spread over multiple days when necessary due to a child's individual needs. Dr. Tutty or one of our other testing psychologists will meet with the individual student and relevant family members to gather further information. The psychologist collaborates with the educational consultation team about the presenting concerns and the individual's academic, developmental and social history. A collective team feedback session with the family will be scheduled after testing is completed. At that time we will discuss the assessment findings and diagnostic determinations, treatment recommendations, and relevant academic implications. Further collaboration in the future can also be arranged for successful implementation of the test results and psychologist's recommendations.
