Neuropsychological Assessment

A neuropsychological assessment assists in understanding an individual's cognitive and emotional functioning, and can aid in the differential diagnosis of neurodevelopmental delay, learning disability, AD/HD, and other psychiatric disorders or disorders of learning and memory. During the course of the assessment, an individual may be asked to complete tests of general ability (intelligence), academic skills, visuospatial abilities, perceptual skills, language functions, learning and memory, attention and concentration, complex problem solving, and emotional functioning.

A neuropsychological evaluation is usually conducted in one comprehensive day of testing or spread over multiple days when necessary due to a child's individual needs. Dr. Oram will meet with the individual student and relevant family members to gather further information, and consults with the educational consultation team about the presenting concerns and the individual's academic, developmental and social history. A collaborative feedback session with family will be scheduled after the testing is completed. At that time we will discuss the assessment findings and diagnostic determinations, treatment recommendations, and relevant academic implications.
